The best adult sailing club in Toronto to learn, race and enjoy the waterfront

At Mooredale Sailing Club Toronto we are a volunteer lead, inclusive community club and we love sharing our passion for sailing. Our enthusiasm is quickly infectious for most new members. We love seeing new members enjoying the thrill of sailing well and fast, without ever having to actually own a boat!

We have a sound teaching program that is unique to our club. This program includes beginner and advanced sailing lessons in Toronto certified by Sail Canada which is recognised both nationally and internationally.

Beginner Sailing Lessons

We welcome our new members by offering lessons taught by our professional CYA certified instructors - including Leen-Jan, pictured below.  These lessons are included in your first year membership fee.  Our "Learn to Sail" program will include the following;

  • 40 hours of instructor-lead training over 6 weeks (most courses at other clubs only offer the minimum 30 hours of instruction)
  • Small class sizes of only 8 boats per class
  • 2 students maximum in adults-sized boats, good for a wide range of adults sizes.  Othere clubs often offer courses in boats more suited fo children..
  • Learn boat safety, boat handling and seamanship in winds up to 9 knots
  • Knowledge and practical experience to be certified with CANSail I & II
  • Engaged instructors who are also club members
  • Fun and enjoyable club atmosphere

Check out our Mooredale CANSail Manual that goes through a few basic points and how to rig a boat. To maximize the result of your lessons, have a look at it before you go to your first class.

and More

While you are learning the basics of sailing in this friendly atmosphere, you will get familiar with the club and its members and the many opportunities to socialize and get involved. You will help prepare meals for you and your class mates and hopefully lend a hand in making this community club run smoothly. Without our members pitching in we wouldn’t exist!

You will also have an option to participate in different introductory programs, which may include, an introduction to boat maintenance and repair (involving fiberglass work), skills development training which will be run by our top racers, and of course full access to our clubhouse, kayaks, standup paddle boards and all of our social activities.

ADvanced Classes and clinics

Mooredale offers rust remover classes at the begining of the season, race training  on Monday night open to those who have passed CanSail1/2 , and advanced SailCanada courses- CanSail 3 and CanSail4, as well as training clinics on how to use the Lasers and Hobie sailboats..

Your first season as a new sailor at Mooredale

Sign up for lessons

Find the set of lessons that work for your schedule and sign up early (we do sell out every year).

Explore sailing in a small class of fellow adult future sailors with expert tuition.

Class format is usually a short briefing with objectives and then it is out on the water. Two students per boat. There is always coach boat supervision and guidance on the water.

After your lessons

Once you pass your Cansail 2 class then the Albacores boats are available to you to take out as much as you want.

Come down for dinner and a leisure sail with other members on a Wednesday night.

Enjoy the festivities of regattas, help host a Friday night race (no experience required) or just go for a sail with a friend and have a bbq.

Then what?

Continue on your sailing enjoyment and learning journey.

Take the boats out for leisure sails and improve your skill and experience.

Join the free Monday night training sessions.

Crew for a Friday night race or even a harbour master on a Sunday and start experiencing the racing side of sailing.

End of the season

Congratulations you have completed your first season as a sailor.

We finish off the season with our Baby Duck Regatta in early September. This is where new sailors (no more than 2 years sailing) get a chance to have a fun race with other classes and other clubs.

This is always a highlight of the year for our new sailors and is great fun.
